SASTODX Examples

The following are examples of visualizing SAS data using Data Explorer (DX) . The data was imported into DX using the sastodx filter program which was developed at Dartmouth and is now at the DX Repository at Cornell. A tar file for the filter program is available here or by downloading from the Repository download the sastodx filter.

Survey of Student Attitudes

survey.gif: This image shows the results of a survey of attitudes toward alcohol usage that was given to 67 students three times. The firs time was before they took an Alcohol Education Course, the second time while they were taking the class and the third after they had completed the class. The figure shows how their attitudes were changed as a result of the course.

This movie (mpeg version or quicktime version) shows the survey results described above sorted by the type of answer and whether the survey was pre-course, during the course or post-course.

Tree Sappling Densities

sapplings.gif - this image shows the densities of sapplings in transects around trees of a particular species. The data is was taken Thailand during the 3 year period 93-95. and ecologists are trying to understand what could be causing certain species of trees to be dying out. The area around the tree was divided into 4 transects (long strips) and the density of sapplings was measured at distances of 5, 15 amd 35 meters from the tree. The figure shows the results of densities around 5 trees for 1993-1995.The circular glyphs are sized and colored by density.

Fish Characteristics

fish.gif - this image shows a scatter diagram from some ecological data that contains measurements of swim rate and physical characteristics for certain fish species. We set up a Dx network that lets us select which parameters to use to form the x,y,z axes and which to use to color and size the glyphs.
